Cliff/Spar's 450g in-wall tank project

at least the seal is reasonably easy to change out. maybe it would just be a good procedure to change them out once a year as standard procedure. i am just excited that my micro bubble issue may be gone now (thinking positive) [smilie=clapping.gif]

Hi everyone! Almost a year since my last progress update. No major (possibly any... hard to remember) equipment changes, but the coral is growing out of control... to my liking!

Your reef is beautiful!!! Thank you for the image update. I love the columns of corals - it came out great.

Looking good cliff. You still using the chemicals from Leslie's ?

yep for Calc and Alk. although it is getting more-and-more frequent that I have to refill the containers as my coral grows. lots of large colonies now. but so much easier than when i had a calc reactor.

As you may have seen in my '911' post, my glass decided to separate on me a little over a week ago. Manufacturing defect of some sort...

I moved everything over to a 300 gallon tub in hopes to store it there until I got my tank fixed (minimum of a couple months). But, things started going south real quickly, starting with my massive turquoise staghorn dieing and an ammonia increase to follow. I only lost a few things at least.

This all happened on the same day I brought my newborn daughter (first child) home from the hospital. Between the shift in priorities with now taking care of her, and the emotional trauma of this tank collapse ordeal, my wife and I have decided to take a prolonged break from the reefing the world.

I can assure you all I will be back a few years down the road though!

I can't thank Cameron and Ryan enough for their support in the quick response to helping me tear down my tank and get things organized. I would have been *%&#-up-the-creek without you guys!

I have given all the livestock and rock to Dynamic Reefs to help me sell off during their grand opening this weekend.

Here is the final full tank picture I have from before the collapse, and then what it looked like after [smilie=crying.gif]

I'm sorry to hear this Cliff. What a total pain. :(

I got my [fixed] tank back in! Excited about being able to get it rolling along.

I ended up going with a Synergy Reef Overflow (20" on both sides), BeanAnimal durso system... amazing how much quieter it is than regular old dursos!

Very nice! Looks like you've gotten it plumbed in, and based on your sounds comment it must be running. Congrats!

Ya, sorry didn't wait for you to free up this time. I just pulled together a couple guys and plugged through it over the weekend. Took way more time than should have, but no leaks!! Measured 3 times, glued once :)

Now for the slow process of getting all the little things working again... live rock should come in within 2 weeks or so.

Holy crap I have been away from the board a while, didn't know you had a tank failure that sucks those pics from Jan 2015 where definitely worth being proud of.
I actually recently moved to Melissa and have ordered a new custom tank. I am staying small though, no more big tanks for me.
Good luck on the new reef. To me part of the fun is building a new system but not because of a tank failure.

Thanks Steve. Regardless I am still looking forward to the rebuild. I am doing several things differently that will make it a better experience. No more sand, no more micro-bubbles, no more snails, only starphire/low-e glass now, better rock placement, among other things.

Agreed that Jan 2015 shots looked great. I couldn't recall how old most of that coral was so checked yesterday; I put most of that coral as frags in January 2014... so was only a year old. Gives me hope it won't be too long before things are back to normal!

Looking forward to your build thread!

Come visit at the end of your holiday next time and I will load you up with Aussie Goodness :D

I have a fast growing flouro green Monti Cap, a blue Monti Cap and and Red Monti Cap, all need fragging before they kill neighbouring corals :p
