I bought a couple a month or so ago to help deal with some bryopsis. They worked like a charm. Just wanted to throw up a post for anyone else that might be thinking of using them for this purpose.
Now I have a bunch of baby slugs crawling around. These guys are less about 1/2 long now...
Thought some would be interested. A bit of the metal bar liquefied, dropped on to the outer bulb and melted through. The glass panel in the fixture stopped it from entering the tank. I wish I had been there to see it.
I'm considering adding some actinic's to my halide-only setup. I'm trying to get a my croals to fluoresce a bit.
The last time I used florescent bulbs (over ten years ago), I had T12 actinics and they worked well. Are they still the best for the job or are do T5 actinics work well now?
After months of picking, pounds of GFO, liters of vodka, and trashbags of chaeto...I...FINALLY...SUCCEED. [smilie=evilgrin.gif]

The misspelling was intentional and, IMO very appropriate. [smilie=lol.gif]
I've always avoided buying livestock during summer and winter because I'm worried about temperature causing problems. Anyone care to share experience with shipping during the peak of summer and winter?

I've been using vodka with occasional prodibio biodigest applications for a couple of years now with acceptable results. However, P typically stays at about 100 ppb. Generally not enough to cause algae problems, but I'd like to experiment with bringing it lower.
I'm thinking of switching away...
I bought the Red Sea Potassium test kit and was having some trouble with it. Basically the last part of the test was failing to give the color I was expecting to see. Anyway, after a few tries, I sent an email to Red Sea asking for some help.
I expected to get a somewhat generic response or...
I thought this was cool, so just throwing it out there for your enjoyment.
Below is a pic of an anemone split in progress. This is about a week after seeing the first sign of it positioning for a split and about three days after the initial "stretch".

I'd like to pick up a generator to power about 200W of equipment (mostly pumps) in case of a power outtage.
This honeywell looks good: http://www.honeywellstore.com/store/products/honeywell-800-watt-38cc-4-stroke-ohv-portable-inverter-generator.htm
Anybody have any experience with these...
I just tried to buy an SRO 8000I for my 700 gallon system and it turns out that the manufacturer doesn't plan to build any until late December/January. I'd rather not wait that long.
I'm looking for an internal skimmer that doesn't require a feed pump for around a grand. Height isn't an...
This came across coral-l today. Congrats to Ian Wilson! Hopefully we will all soon be trading settled planulae instead of fragments [smilie=smile.gif]

Nice little diy project on hackaday:

Think I will do something similar to it.
Just an FYI. If you buy salt from petstore.com's amazon storefront, you don't have to pay the $20 heavy shipping fee typically charged for the 5 gallon buckets. At least for now.
Hi All,
I want to relocate one half of my recently split sherman anemonie to a 10g. The orignal anemone was happy at about 500-600 PAR.
Any suggestings for a lighting fixture that would fit a standard 10g tank and put out 500ish par? I'm looking for something ready to go out of the box.
Thanks!
I'm considering having a custom AGE tank and stand bulit. I know they are well known for their quality--I'm more concerned with working through an LFS. Has anyone been through the design/build/installation process? I'm open to LFS recommendations too.
Thanks!
