Generator

I'd like to pick up a generator to power about 200W of equipment (mostly pumps) in case of a power outtage.

This honeywell looks good: http://www.honeywellstore.com/store/products/honeywell-800-watt-38cc-4-stroke-ohv-portable-inverter-generator.htm

Anybody have any experience with these lower-power generators powering pumps and such?

You linked to an 800w generator. Keep in mind in the winter you may need a heater or two. If you really only have to run a few powerheads, it should be fine. I like to get my return pump running for sure since that way no water is stagnant for the duration. I wonder how loud it is?

This is closer to what I have. It's a beast, but has run 37 hours straight once.

And here's my article about all the things to consider:

If it goes out in the middle of summer you're gonna want to be able to run a chiller or a window a/c unit to keep the tank cool as well.

I run a 3k Honda generator now I wish I went bigger. Not just running a tank, but a fridge, freezer and window ac unit I could see I needed a bigger unit when we had rolling brown outs couple summers ago

Yeah, you guys are right. I need to be able to run the window unit and heaters as well as the sump pump. I take it that your still happy with your gen, Marc?

My window unit is 240V as is the heaters. I need a unit that can output 120V and 240V.

I love my generator and probably use it four times a year. Be sure you read the article because it talks about what to avoid and how to keep it well maintained so it works when you NEED it.
