I haven't tested in just over a year (not counting salinity). Nothing should change in my tank unless something noticeable happens (example: fish/coral dies). Do my water changes religiously and make sure everything else is clean.
I used to test weekly. My tank has stabilized a lot since then. Now I test for alk/cal every now and then, just to make sure my kalk topoff is keeping up. I might test for nitrate/phosphate if I have an algae bloom... but if there's algae... I already know what the results are going to be, so I just treat the symptoms by throwing on a GFO reactor or something.
I only have a 40g though, so it's very difficult to keep everything 100% stable. Parameters are going to swing a little whether I test or not. I probably allow my parameters to "breathe" more than some people with heavy SPS tanks do.
So I'm obviously the odd man out when t comes to testing. What all is everyone testing for so frequently? (FYI I have an LPS and Zoa tank so nothing demanding like the SPS guys).
Thanks for the responses. I try to test every week. I test for Nitrates, calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, sometimes phosphates. I have an app for my iPad that is an aquarium log to help me track parameters.
