I have a few SPS that I am ready to remove from the frag plugs and mount to some rock. What is the best approach in doing this without damaging the frag?

I use cuting shears...

WHat about the growth that is already on the frag plug? Do you just cut off the SPS and regrow from the frag plug?

I prefer to use a dremel and cut the plug and leave all the encrusting coral on the disk. Then just use putty to attach the disk to a rock.

That sounds like a plan. I will have to get me either a dremel. Thanks.

I agree, if the sps has already started to encrust to the plug, I'd just leave it and cut the bottom portion of the plug and then glue it to a rock. The plug's smoother surface will allow the coral to encrust quicker than a piece of live rock anyway. In a few months the plug will be completely covered.

Most of the time you can just use something sharp to lift the encrusting part of the plug and the whole frag comes right off. If some encrusted part is left over on the plug, it's just going to grow into another frag . That's just how I do it.
