Blue Gorgonia

I saw this today and read about the issues involved with
keeping one alive, but I'm going to give it a try. The store
would not have given anyone the right advice on it. They
did not even know what it was.

Anyway to the point, who has kept one alive and any tips
you might have on top of the few dozen conflicting ones I
have found on the Internet would be appreciated.

Thanks WoodDragon

It looks like a blueberry gorgonian in the genus Guaiagorgia, according to this link:

There do seem to be a lot of opinions so you'll probably have to experiment with cyclo-peze, live phyto-plankton, different currents, etc.

Good luck

PS Are those really cichlids - they look more like some kind of rainbow? Cool fish anyway.

You may want to try this food.

I use this for my Gorgonians. I have 4 different types of Gorgonians. They are all photosynthetic varieties but I definitely see them catch some of this food. I got the food at the Dallas Pet-O-Rama.

The food is very small and has rotifers, cyclops, moina, and spirilina.

I was having a very hard time keeping the
algae from growing on parts of the exposed
skeleton and it was killing it back, so I took
desperate measures and fragged it up to keep
the parts with good growth. At this time
I think the frags are showing some new growth
it is at least not dying at this time. I hated to
cut it up but it was not going to make as it was.

It shows signs of feeding on the things I put
in the tank, but I've also been over feeding the
tank and have had a small cyno outbreak have
to cut back on the amount of stuff I'm putting in
to the tank.

Unfortunately that is the case almost all the time. They are total filter feeders and almost anything that is not partly a photosynthetic has very little chance of making it in our aquariums. Another one of those corals that should be left in the ocean and not purchased.

I do agree with that, I got it to try and save it. The
place that had it did not even know what it was
but where telling people that it would grow fine
and all it needed was light. They also tell people
that you do not need to feed any corals just put
them in the tank and they'll do fine. I will not be
going back to that LFS though every time I've been
there I want to buy some of there stuff and try and
save it from the idiots.
