What Salt Mix do you use?

I'm still on my first purchase of salt. I chose RS Coral Pro mainly due to the word-of-mouth reports I heard. Currently I use such a small amount, I still have plenty left. I have thought about trying something else next time, but "if it aint broke, don't fix it". I do plan on keeping my eyes and ears open around the SALT discussions at MACNA! [smilie=wink.gif]

I use Red Sea Pro but will change it next time I buy. To me the salt is not as important as some of the side effects, such as the cyano that seems to come with Red Sea Pro. Most if not all of us dose anyway so the levels of calcium/alk/mag/stromium is not that important. If there is a good salt but the levels of those aren't as high, my tank will get it anyway through dosing, I can always just increase my dosage. I used brightwell in the past and it mixed well with no side effects but I will probably go to reef crystals as it is one of the ones that Plano Pets sells and they salt is inexpensive for sure, AND Ron B. uses it so it HAS to be good [smilie=rofl.gif]

I'm on my fifth or sixth bucket of Aquavitro Salinity. I was able to cut back my dosing a bit with it- instead of refilling my 2-part jugs every 14 days, it stretches out to 21-22 days.

I am switching to reg red sea instead coral pro. As I run biopellets

Have you found that this salt takes forever to mix up?

I'm with Reef Crystals.
My zoas and coral growth just seem quicker with this brand. I've tried the SeaChem, wanted to try the Red Sea but they were out when I went to the LFS at the time.

Nope, but I heat my water before I add the salt. Makes all the difference in the world.

Friday morning, I turned on the RO/DI on my mixing barrel and plugged in the heater. The barrel was filled by Friday afternoon. Saturday morning I plugged in the mixing pump and added salt, and Saturday night it was mixed. Did the water change before I went to bed.

I do have a redneck filter on it, though. I have a maxi-jet at the bottom of the barrel, connected to a length of hose that comes out the top of the barrel, with a paper towel rubber-banded to the output. It catches any particulates that accumulate. I typically change the paper towel twice while mixing a new batch.

I just switched to Reef Crystals from Red Sea Coral Pro (Black Bucket). I was having to treat for red slime about every 2-3 weeks. I have been using Reef Crystals for about 3 weeks now and have no red slime at all. I Started using Kent salt about 2 years ago and then with the Big intro of Red Sea Coral Pro i switched for about a year and it took about 3-4 months before the Red Slime started to show. If you can deal with the red slime, i think it grows coral very nicely. I hate to have to treat red slime so often so i switched.

I have been using Sybon Reef Salt that I got a crap ton of with a group buy. I have been happy with it but thinking of switching. I like the idea of not having to dose so much

My cal stays around 420 and the alk is around 8 and mag is around 1350. I have a ton of stuff in my tank so I do end up dosing. I had problems keeping it consistent with other salts
