Been trying to ID this "coral/tube worm" for months. Today I just noticed the white crown? or whatever peaking out of one of them.
What are these?

Never seen that before... With doing zero googling I would guess that looking around peanut worms would lead you to an ID. I had one once but it was short and had no mouth or anything like that.

http://www.melevsreef.com/critters/peanut-worms ??? for a better look and info on peanut worm.

From the pics it does not look like yours ... Is yours soft/ fleshy or in a tube ??

You could also see if Bob Fenner still helps ID stuff ... http://www.wetwebmedia.com/

No, that is a soft coral. Something goofy like French Fry Coral or similar. Checking.... Just googled it, and apparently I was the only guy to call it that on this page. LOL [smilie=lol.gif]

Definitely not any type of evil worm. They are all stationary. The tubes feel fleshy and bumpy. I think Marc is on the right track!

Still think with it retracting into the rock it is a worm and not a coral.

Sent from pay phone in the airport.

Chaetopterid or spaghetti worms several sites say they are ok...I would ask that someone who has them verify this fact as some of the pictures I have seen...they have tenticles on them and who knows what that will do to other coral.

What is pictured is larger - this is a type of coral, not a pest worm.

It doesn't retract into the rock. They are tubes almost resembling sponges. I've had them for months and the base of each tube has not changed location nor have they multiplied. The tubes will change curvature occasionally. I am 100% CERTAIN they are not any type of pest worm. Tube worm possibly but more than likely not even that cause the tubes feel fleshy like leather corals.

I can't offer any guidance but I believe Marc is right by your description. Either way, am I wrong for thinking they are
neat in a very peculiar way!?

They are neat. I'll see if I can get some help identifying them as something better than French Fry coral. ;)

That was quick. Here you go - Snake Polyps: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=597+599+2157&pcatid=2157
