I have an older Reef octopus Like the picture. Gray, No gate valve. My pump is struggling to start after being off for feeding, water change, etc....It just chatters, not bubbles. I have to put my finger over the input to the pump to get it going. If I leave it to "Chatter", it'll start after some time. Five minutes or way longer sometimes.

Should I

Upgrade the whole skimmer? Does the body of the skimmer change? or, is it the pumps that get better, change, get more efficient?

or
Rebuild the pump? $47

I would replace the pump.

Going to a larger pump may cause the skimmer to overflow.

Thanks for the feedback

The Aquatrance 2000 is the "Replacement" for the older style. so, it's not a larger pump.
