Target feeding SPS question

What is the preferred procedure when target feeding SPS? Or really for any coral type for that matter. I use one of those Kent wand things that suck up mixed-food and then stretches up to 36". Do I just simply spray the coral with this and they will get enough food? Or do I need to get them 'ready' for it first?

I use the same wand and i try to target feed right after lights go out for the night (but may be changing that schedule) due to my fish and shrimp stealing the food. For SPS I just spray it around the coral and try to make sure that what I'm putting around them is the smallest particle size stuff. For the LPS type corals I try to make sure that a piece or two lands on the coral and stays long enuff that the coral gets it to it's mouth to eat it.
