Sponges from... thin air?

I bought a bunch of dry BRS pukani LR for my 120, and refrained from using any LR from my 75. The BRS rock had tons of dead stuff in it, but thats just it, it was very dead. The rock arived dry, and sat around for 3 months before ever going back in water.

Where did they come from? Everything used in the tank was completely sterile, and now I have a bunch of tiny white sponges popping up everywhere.
 
Probably from new livestock additions. They are harmless filter feeders.
 
Im not worried about them, just boggled my mind how they seem to have come from no where
