Snail?

If that's a snout Like a periscope its some sort of whelk. If not and just part of body its a stromatella (sp). That she'll looks more substantial than a cap on a slug.
 
If it looks like it has a fingernail for a shell that isn't fully covering its body, it's a stomatella as stated earlier. They are absolutely fine and harmless.
 
The whelk family includes many snails... many of which we do not want in our tanks. They will eat snails, starfish etc.... they are carnivores. Some look like whelks, like the nassarius, which is a scavenger and is helpful. Rule of thumb, if in doubt, isolate until you can id it or remove it.

Could be harmless.... could be a problem child. You need to firmly ID the species to know for certain.
 
I have got something similar its the color of my sand and is flat like a pebble but u can see it is this bad :/
