Small Sump/Refugium

I have recently obtained a 55g tank that was previously used for freshwater. I would like to use it for a saltwater fish only (with live rock) tank. The issue I have is that the stand we bought for it does not have much room underneath for a filtration system. The area in the cabinents (two of them) is only approx. 14" X 14". Is there a sump I can get to fit this area? Any thoughts on how a sump would be in an enclosed cabinent area (back is open)? I am concerned about the moisture affecting the cabinent itself.

Are those drawers under the tank? The crown molding isn't a continuous piece.

To be honest, I would probably get a matching piece of furniture and place the sump inside that to the right or left of the tank. Like this one:
