Setting up new tank

I'm setting up a new IM 30 micro and have a few questions.  The live rock is cured but the sand is new "out of the bag."  I know the lights don't need to be on to get the tank cycled but I'd like to promote coralline algae growth.  Lights on or off?  When should I turn my skimmer on? Any other tips or input? Thanks!

What I have learned is that coralline algae takes time. During the cycle I would keeps lights off and skimmer on. If you turn on the lights you'll just start growing nuisance algae. Turning the skimmer on now will let it start breaking in so it can be running great when you some bio-load to the tank. Just my 2 cents! Good luck on the new setup!
