From my reef setup. They were old but I'd come to the conclusion they were nothing more then nitrate factories. (Despite using NO3PO4, reducing feedings- and all my filtration, couldn't get nitrates below 25) Since I was only changing out the carbon and the paper filter once a month, I think they were doing more harm then good.
I have a refugium with live rock, rolling rock and a sand bed along with the 100 pounds of live rock in my tank. I also have a skimmer that is rated for a tank twice my size so I think I'll be in good shape.
Thoughts?
