Phyto Reactor

So,

Is it possible to build a phyto reactor?

From my understanding, when you start a phyto culture, you need to harvest it within 5-10 days to both prevent them from starving to death, and from overpopulating.

But what If I set up a chamber that would drip saltwater from my tank into the chamber, and drip output into the tank?
That would provide fresh tank water with food for the phyto in, and drip fresh phyto out into the tank preventing the overpopulation....

any comments? or reasons why this wont work?

You can set that up with a dual doser, but from what I read you still have to reduce the culture every now and then to keep it going. I believe you can get a setup from aquafarms in florida, they have the system but not with the dosers.

Here is the aquamedic reactor

This one with the light. You can probably get a cheaper light.

You will probably have a hard time keeping your plankton alive. If you have a doser that takes say 5ml of plankton out lets say like every 3days, you will have to replace the 5ml with some sort of clean saltwater solution with new food in it to ensure the brood you have gets feed and can replinish from the 5ml that you took out. I dont think you want to refill your reactor with your tank water, because that is just going to contaminate the reactor and I'm sure there will be something tiny in the water thats going to eat the plankton and eventually deplete it to where you have to start all over.

Now if your doser refills the plankton container with Sterile water and some food, you still have to wait a few days for the plankton to eat the new food to ensure you are not just dropping phosphates from the liquid food into your aquarium. I would say it can be done but it will be a fine science as to what you release in the aquarium as to how you keep your brood going.
