Nitrate Reductor Help

it looks like a box full of bio ballas dude. I wouldnt use it. True nitrate reducing bacteria do not like sunlight. That thing probably reduces nitrites to nitrates... but you'll still have the issue of dealing with nitrates which will require a water change unless you have a deep sand bed.

Here is a site if you are looking for a mechanical solution to your nitrate issues.

It should theoretically work fine. The theory is a very very slow stream of water to create an xtremely low o2 environment and feed with a carbon source (sugar or vodka) and nitrates get converted in Nitrogen gas. It will work. I can't help with specifics on that one though.

yes, there are other links at that site to other research that has been also done on this topic. If you have access to the library, and you dont want to purchase the articles, you can request that copies be made of the articles for a nominal fee.

Err.. Rhodobacter sphaeroides (the subject of that study) isn't one of the marine bacteria identified with denitrification.. That bacteria has multiple modes of growth- photosynthesis, lithotrophy, aerobic and anaerobic respiration, depending on conditions..
