[Aren't clams sorta like corals, in that they are not supposed to touch each other?

Even if not, they might get better circulation if there is room around each one.]

[They like a little nitrate, they need good lighting, good water quality, and a loving owner. They can touch as far as I know.]

[Put a rock or shell underneath them and once they attach to it then you can move them safely wherever you like.]

They positioned themselves like that, when I placed them they werent touching.

That might be a problem for me, I havent had any measurable nitrate since not long after my tank cycled.

They are actually both on a flat rock barely beneath the sand. I havent checked to see if they have attached to it.]

[Yes they can touch with no problems.
Brandon, you might wanna try the KoralVitF food made by Daniel Knop, I dont have any measurable nitrate either but my clams are doing great and showing lots growth since I started feeding this stuff.

They are beauties!]
