Mounting frags to rocks?

I have a frag of Favia, should I remove it from the frag disk and mount it directly onto the rock or will it be ok to just mount the disk to the rock.

When I do it, I use gel to glue the frag to the putty, then a nice amount on the bottom of the epoxy and smoosh it to the rock firmly. Don't twist it. Also.. apply the gel out of the water then stick it to the rock as fast as you can.

it would work out more naturally to take it off, but if its started growing over its skeleton onto the disk you might damage it. also, once you put it on a rock and it grows over it then you are stuck with that coral permanantly be a part of it.
