i use brs but have used tech m also
1341 thats odd my test doesnt get to the single digit
but thats good 1300 to 1400 is pretty common
if you want to kill bryopsis take it much higher with tech m
i dose by just pouring in a cup and adding it

I use the bulkreefsupply.com Magnesium Chrloride and some epsom salts from Walgreens.

I mix 7 1/4 cups Magnesium Chloride with 3/4 cups of Magnesium Sulfate in one gallon of pure RO/DI water. This is a balanced additive for people who don't dose two part. Source here: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-07/rhf/index.php

I usually add a cup or two of the solution to my water change make up water (40 gallons of fresh seawater). I keep my mag a little over 1500.

Bulk Reef Supply...

I try to keep my levels around 1400ppm. I'll use Tech M if I have to, but have bleached corals before, though they did come back without a problem. I just added too much too soon. Even the zoanthids didn't like it. Killed off Bryopsis though so it was a good trade-off.

Just don't be surprised by the amount needed to get back on track if you are low. Its one of those additives that takes quite a bit. Use one of the various calculators to determine the amount and then split it over 2 or 3 doses over a few days or so. Mg takes awhile to fully disperse into the tank.

do you have a linc for the calculators? does the mg only come in a liquid supplement? said:
Here is a generic one that covers many of the formula/recipes. Bulk Reef has their own, but its based on this one.

Tech M is liquid and I think Brightwells is as well. The others are in crystal or powder form and need to be mixed. Just make sure you get one that uses a combination of Mg Sulfate and Mg Chloride as there is a balance that needs to be maintained between them.
