ID this Shark.

I'm pretty sure it is not a bamboo shark it has not vertical
bars on it. only the spots which are actually rings, not
solid spots.

I do trust the person I got it from on the size and
eating habits of the shark, but the name he gives
it is just to generetic, just calls it a Spotted Shark.
It is suppose to only get to 18" in length.

I've been googling and looking at other references all
day trying to find it. I have ran across a couple of references
to types of catsharks that the description fits but they have
no photos.

Right now the shark is about 6" long.

we have been looking at a few of these in the last two weeks. I have heard them referred to as Banded Sharks. Pet Boutique and Aquadic Trading both have them however the one at Pet Boutique has more pronounced brown and white bands.

Bill at Neptunes Cove just had one hatch yesterday....I don't remember the name but perhap's ya'll can discuss via phone and get a correct id. It's a pet peeve of mine but I like the person selling me stuff to know what they are selling. That helps me with determining dietary, environment needs ect. :)

Cheers,

Tony at Aquatic Trading yesterday was calling it a Nano Shark and said it got to about 18". He said to inject some mysis in the sand and the shark will find it.

i'm keeping some mysis in a couple of places in the sand. Last
night he was crusing the rocks maybe he will find something to
eat on them. I have a Lot of life in my tank but it will not
support him once he starts growing.

Hemiscyllium freycineti or Indonesian speckled carpetshark. I have to disagree with him on size. I've found several references online that all say 46cm which is ~ 18.5". Definitely one of the smaller bamboos. Sweet find!! How much was he if you don't mind my asking?

All the descriptions and the few pics I've found on the
Hemiscyllium freycineti show a light colored body with
dark rings. Now this is a pub have no Idea what kind of
color changes it might go through.

At this point I have not found an ID I'm happy with, it looks
like a trip to the main Dallas library is fixing to be in order
pouring over a lot of books.

About mid-day he went for a long swim around the tank,
and then went back into a cave and has been hanging out
there all afternoon. I'll be hiding way to much mysis in the
tank the next few days trying to figure out if he is eating.
the hermits will have a field day. I'd like to get him use to
finding food in the same spot but I might be hoping for to much.

I do not know what the full asking price was, sorry.
a handfull of nice frags can make a good difference at
my favorite LFS, that is just one of the many reasons
why I only shop at Aquatic Trading. I will NOT spend
my money away where else.

OK, I remember you now. I was in there when you brought in the Kenya Tree frags. Tony pointed out the shark to you but I didn't know you got it. Cool.

I was the guy in the white shirt, jeans shorts and the blue ball cap.

I was at Tony's today and we asked about the shark just out of curiousity as I knew you bought it there. Tony said they retail in his store at $89.

He said it was nocternal and does most of its swimming and feeding at night.

Yea, if I lived that close to a good LFS it would be very dangerous for our bank account.

At this point I don't know yet, have also been inclined to
think it might be a Whitespotted Bamboo Shark which
will most likely mean that his tanks needs will have
to change from what I was thinking about.

At least it gives me an excuse for a monster tank
in the near future.

I do not think I'll be able to get a positive ID on him
until he gets a little older.
