Digitate or finger-like hydroids

[Someone posted this link in the flatworm thread:

I was looking at it and noticed I have Digitate or Finger-Like Hydroids (scroll down the page...mine are like the long, thin, white guys in the right-hand picture). I have not noticed any corals suffering or being burnt, and I guess I've seen more in my refugium than in the tank, but I don't look at my tank that often after lights go out because I don't like to blind my fish with my flashlight...so, no telling how many I do have in my main tank. Do I really need to rid myself of these? If so, how would I do so?]

[Jody, I've got some too and they've not caused me any trouble at all. I do enjoy watching how they manuever in the current, but you do have to watch them at night with a flashlight.]

[Jody,
One trick to watching critters at night is to get a flashlight with a red lense or filter. They do not see red very easily and you can watch critters without them scaring them off.]
