Difference between Starfire and normal glass for shielding?

I need to buy a piece of glass to enclose my lighting canopy. I was just going to get a normal piece of glass cut to size. Then I looked at it from the side and saw how green it was. I then asked the man if he could get Starfire. The price for plain glass was $58 and the Starfire is $210! My question is will the Starfire glass make that much difference in the reduction of PAR?
 
Most people use Starfire glass for the viewing panel, not for the light fixture.
 
No! Shielding glass is so thin it will make no difference. The only real difference starts at 1/2" and over. Otherwise it's negligable.
