For those that might be using, or know of someone using a coralife sterilizer you might want to open it up and check for rust, I’ve been having issues with my corals just not opening up and being happy, I’ve done everything I knots do and was getting nothing in return, I decided to do a ICP test and found that I have a high tin contamination in my tank, recommended by triton labs to look for rust, I couldn’t physically see any just by looking, I decided to open pumps up, found nothing, opened up the cheap coralife 8 watt uv sterilizer and there it was, hiding in plain sight! I dismantled it and found a lot more rust on the back side of the metal reflective tin they use. I ended up removing the rusty tin, soaked to entire unit in muratic acid mix, scrubbed it good to remove all the remaining rust within it and have it temporarily back in service for a week or so. My suggestion is check and double check your equipment often! I want to give a huge shout out to Reeferscott from the club, he hooked me up with a great replacement unit that I am truly appreciative for, gotta make a wall mount for it then it’ll be in service in a few days.
