Cleaning sand & have a question

I have done this once before and it was very easy, but this time my sand was in coolers for almost 4 months. Obviously it is very nasty and stinks. If I get it cleaned out good is it still ok to use? The last time the sand wasnt nearly as dirty and I wasnt worried about using it.

Forgot to mention that the sand produced black/dark gray water when I was rinsing it out. I read an article that I found on the forum where a guy washed sand that sat for 18 months in a trash can outside, but the pictures of him cleaning the sand didnt seem to produce the same nasty water that mine is.

Sand is sand. If you wash away all the vile stuff, you'll end up with clean sand. You will want to watch carefully as you rinse it out to make sure you are left with the good stuff.
