    Good 400 watt Bulbs???

I need some opinions on 400 watt single ended bulbs. I have run different bulbs over the year. Most recently for the last few years I was running Reeflux 400 watt 10k bulbs. But I go tired of changing the bulb every six months because the shift so much over just six months or so. So I decided at...

    dose vodka......

What natural balance might be put out of whack by intentionally boosting one bacteria up so high? The basics, stick with the basics it is a lot safer. Might be more work, but is safer than dumping vodka or some of the other quick fixes into an aquarium.

    Using Chemiclean or other antibiotics

I have long been wary of using chemi-clean and the other antibiotics often used to dose tanks to try and clean out cyano-bacteria outbreaks. In my mind it was always a question of targeting all bacteria, good and bad. Anyone see this article in Advanced Aquarist's Magazine by Terry Siegal? It...

I know I am probably looking for headaches. But is anyone using electronic ballasts with a Neptune controller and the X-10s? Because of electric bills, I am cutting down both my wattage use and heat issues. I am going to three EVC Tech 400 watt electronic ballasts with three LumenArc Mini...

Deep Sand Bed or Bare Bottom??? Options

I thought I would copy this pretty good but brief article I found on the Marine Depot site. It give a brief overview of the three options of what to use on the bottom of the tank. And I said three, I do not think a layer of crushed coral is an option and apparently neither did they. An...

    Let's talk calcium reactors

[Remember Matt if you bought that MR-HOT reactor which I think would serve you well, and you ever got a bigger tank or needed more calcium reactor, you just get a second chamber. Thats the nice thing about calcium reactors if you have one that is not big enough to handle the job, you do not have...
