tiny little crab

I found a very small crab, maybe one centimeter across in a clump of zoanthids. He is flat, he has four walking legs and then his pincher legs. He is light tan, sandy color, except his front pincher claws, which are black. Has anyone seen these, and are they safe? I took him out and for now he's on a cup on my kitchen table. Should I put him back in?

I would not put him back in. I would suspect it to be a preditor, given it was in your zoa's. Can you get a picture?

besides - crabs have 8 walking legs

Did it look like this?

If so, that is a zoanthid eating spider and definitely a bad thing to have.

most crabs are not reef safe IMO. Mitrax crags are sold as reeef safe and have flat pads on their pinchers for eating algea. But I've seen mine pick on corals whrn they get larger.

there are others that are considered reef safe with caution
