To coax it to open, thaw some food in a small cup of tank water, and then squirt that food-flavored water over the sun coral with the pumps off. This will entice the coral to open up, which can take 5 to 30 minutes. Once open, squirt the solid food on the polyps. You can feed the polpys every 5 minutes, usually about three times in 15 minutes.
I suggest making a dome out of the top of a 2-liter bottle to allow you to feed your coral so that fish and inverts stay away and don't steal its dinner.
