Something is growing…...

Hello all! I have been a bit of a creeper on the forum since late July when I began my first saltwater aquarium. First, I must say thanks to all of your help without you really knowing it! As many of you can remember, this hobby is quite overwhelming when you first start out and many of you have made my first few months smooth cruising. I've had the pleasure to meet a few of you and am looking forward to meeting the rest. Now on to the question….

My wife and I have been trying to figure out what is growing on one of our rocks. It is curling up on itself with a few 'babies' growing at the mother's base. Any guesses… or better yet, an actual identification?

I think the curled up green thing is a feather duster without his tubing. This picture doesn't show true color ... feather is bright yellow with bright green body/ without its sheathing/tube. It left its sheathing and went into the jawfish hole over a period of a couple of weeks (moves really slow) where I ended up with 2 from the one, but cannot find that picture.

Also, what may or may not be *babies*, may be the feathers starting to grow. There are several in itty bitty tubes that will release later on and you will see the fluff come in. ... IF that is what it is!

I am surprised though if it is a feather duster, doing so out in the open.

Please keep us posted.

I would definitely remove it. It's neomeris sp (aka spindleweed algae). They can grow out of control and take over a tank.

I had a coco worm get mad at his house and moved out and created a new one for some reason....maybe this is what is going on here? Thanks for the pic...I was just curious.

Maybe -- it looks bigger than what spindleweed length will max out at 2"

I still think it is a feather duster or as another stated a coco worm. At least OP now has options to search as he can see what he has better than picture shows us.

I found this on the internet....what a plague this is....killl it now.

If I didn't know better I would love this! I'm a big fan of ADA freshwater setups and this feels very reminiscent of them.
