Skimmers and Copepods

View attachment 8421I just got a Mandarin dragonet. My tank is a well established 125 with an 18-20g  refugium and a 20g sump housing bioballs, skimmer and return pump. DT has about 80lbs of LR and the fuge about another 10. I feel like I have a good pod population as evidenced by all the large breeder pods I can see in the sump and fuge.Obviouly the Mandarin needs plentiful pods. I dose phyto every other day shutting off the skimmer for an hour when I do to feed pods and coral.(mixed lps dominant)I’m worried about skimming off my pods and/or stripping the nutrients off that they need to survive through over skimming. I am wondering about the merits of only running my skimmer part time, maybe 16 on 8 off or something like that. Would love to hear you thoughts on this and keeping a Mandarin happy. Thanks!
