Skimmer recommendation for a 500g system?

I'm not at the point in my new build that I need to buy a skimmer, but I thought I'd see what everyone would recommend. I've been out of the game for a while, and I haven't been keeping up with skimmers, especially not ones for a system this size.

Here are the criteria I'm looking at right now:

-realistically capable of handling a well-stocked 450-550g system
-low profile if possible (I'd like to tuck it under the stand and there's a maximum of 36" of clearance, to include room for removing a cup
-external or internal
-ozone safe - would prefer having an ozone port, but that's a bonus

So, what do you think?

If you want to go used... External skimmer I would look reeflo orca. Internal look at bubble king supermarin 300.

If you want to go new I would look for skimmers with the new dc powered pumps.

I'm open to new.. I was looking at the Orca II but it's too tall, or the SRO 7k EXT (looks like it needs more feed pump than I'm prepared to push at it.)

Pampee, which skimmer would that be, with the DC pump?

You must not follow Reef Builder... they have had a bunch of articles about DC pump skimmers in the last month:

thanks titus

couple benefits of dc pumps

1. you can dial in the the skimmer by the speed of the pump

2. dc pumps use less magnets so less work on the pump so less wattage. which means less heat and calcification

3. i can remember which skimmer it was but if you have apex or profilux you can use the controller to control the variable speed pump.

personally i dont like the ati skimmer i am not a big fan of grid wheel impeller.

avast is also coming out with a skimmer with a dc pump

Those do sound like good benefits. I wonder how mature the technology is.. is it where LED lighting was a year ago?

Frank at franks tanks has a 450 setup you might go see what he is running under it said:
Yup, and he has an ATB under the new sps system. That's one of the reasons it's leading the pack at the moment.
