Skimmer for 150 gal.

Few questions first...

How big is your sump and tank combined?
What is your bio-load like fish wise?
Are you going to upgrade tank size anytime in the next year?
Is it a mixed reef? SPS? etc?
What size footprint do you have available for it? Height, width and depth?

More importantly, what is your budget?

Here is my tank size: L 72.5 x W 18.5 x H 29 - 150 gallon
I have the Oceanic #2 Sump, but not sure how many gallons off the top of my head.
Budget: I was thinking something around 200.00..I'm open to used equipment if it makes sense.
I am not sure of the bioload, but I will likey have 4-5 tangs, 2 clows, a goby and a few others smaller fish as well. I guess about avergage or minimal for the tank size. However, I want some growing room for the future.

I need some advise on how get the most out of this type of sump too.
Do you guys have any input on a few tips with this sump.

Ryan,

For a tank that size and that many fish... you won't be able to find a new skimmer in that price range to be effective, though you may be able to find a used on.

Focus on Euro Reef, MSX or Octopus Extreme, Bermuda skimmers in the for sale forum.

For $200, hit the orangecounty and losangeles craigslist.

I found my new skimmer on there. an Octopus Pro 250.

You should be able to find a skimmer in the range.

You can get an EV-240 or an MR-2 for about that, but of course those are beckett driven and need a huge 100W pump to feed them.

Best bet is to go with a more recent model Bubble Master knock-off, or perhaps just the biggest NeedleWheel you can afford.

There is a scratch and dent Octopus 200 on marinesolutionsinc.com for $99.
