While I personally would find it hard to cut into a $200-$1,200+ scoly, it gives me hope that fewer will need to be taken from the wild. Also those absolutely stunning master scolys potentially could become more common (and priced more affordable?!) in the coming years given this great info.

This actually isn't something new. Scott Feldman wrote about this probably 5 or 6 years ago. He actually was putting 2 different ones together hoping they would grow into 1. As far as I know, that part was never successful. From what I've read, it can take a long time for them to grow back into a circular form, which is what most buyers are going to want to see. Not sure we will see aquacultered ones cheaper than wild but it would be nice if that would happen.
