Sailors Eyeballs????

Can anybody tell me what a sailors eyeballs are and are they harmful???

It's a kind of macro algae. I call it a pest.

If you pop one of the bubbles in the water trying to get rid of it, you're spreading the spores and it makes it worse. (Though some people actively cultivate it.)

You can get rid of it by siphoning out water right above it while you pull it off the rock, so the siphon removes any spores. (Or take the rock out, get it off, rinse it good, and put it back.)

I think that's another name for it. The proper name, I think, is Ventricaria. Not certain about that.

Good name for it. I recall a couple of times coming back to the ship after a night of liberty my eyes looked just like that.
