RO filter change schedule

Just curious what schedule other people use to change there RO filters. I have been changing mine every 6 months but I'm not sure that is the best policy. Should I be basing it on the number of gallons I make?
 
I have a TDS meter the filters I am referring to are the three prefilters sediment, and the 2 carbon blocks. I get about 4-8 tds out of the membrane and 0 after the DI. I am using 6 months as a changing schedule, in 6 months I estimate I put about 600 gallons of usable water through the unit and about 2400 gallons of waste water. Assuming a 4:1 waste to pure water and 30 gallon water changes every 3 weeks and 15 gallons a week of top off.
 
That is perfect Mike. 600g / 6 months is when you change your prefilters.
