Protein Skimming after Feeding Corals in an 80 gallon tank with LPS & Zoas

Looking all over the Net for answers to address this, I am now more confused then ever.
If I don’t wait for approx. 2 hours after feeding the corals I have to adjust my skimmer or it overflows.

So I would like to hear how you Protein Skimming in your tank.

I do two things currently:
1) have my sump/overflow off during feeding/eating (however long that needs to be)
---- have other pumps providing circulation within tank (these always on)
2) have my skimmers on a 3 minute delay using a refrigerator surge protector
