Propagation setup in sump

[Hi all - My propagation setup inside of the sump Marc built for me is running again. I am using Aquaspace Mini-pendant 10K 150 watt HQI. There is not much room so this fixture works great - it's under 4 inch. Sorry about the ugly power cord from the 4 MJ 1200 pump running on Rea Sea Wave Maker Pro.
This propagation area has about 22.9 gallon. 12 x 15 x 29.5 I think 150 watt should be good enough.

I frag a few corals to have backup. I will also have a few things for the upcoming frag swap.

Adjacent to the prop area is the refugium. Right now I have MH light on 5 hours a day. I know most folks here recommended 24 hours light for the refugium. I was wondering if that may affect coral growth? While the refugium light is on, the frag/corals will see some of that light and I wonder if this may not be okay.

Right now I setup the refugium on reverse light from the display tank. This way the frags can have hours of darkness. I like to hear your opinion if this is or is not necessary. Thanks!

PS - I got my starboard today. So maybe this weekend I will take all of my corals out, siphon out sand, and going BB. Yipee! :taz:]

[looks great peter,, But yes,, you do need to have " Lights out" period for your corals. Thats actually when they process the energy they absorb during photoperiods.... this is also when their calcification takes place.. I think the additional photosynthesis going on should help keep your PH up as well. Did you get the starboard in one piece or in two?

LMK when your going to do this. I may come help..:)]

[Nathan,
I got it in two pieces. Thanks for your suggestion. They were quite heavy. But carrying half piece at a time wasn't bad. I had the regal plastic precut to fit my overflow box. I need to do some fitting, there is small chance that I need to take it back and trim it a little. See, I took measure from top of the tank. I would hate to take everything out, only to find that board does n't fall all the way to the bottom.]

[thats another reason why I suggested two pieces.. easy to handle and if you need to have one side trimmed,, you can have the other done as well...:) probably weighs what 40lbs a side?]

[I don't know about the weight. It's not 'comfortable' to carry both.

I'm really hoping to crank up the current and see how things work out for me.

I'm also going to remove all leather coral from my tank. I think T. gigas will be fine sitting on a rock placed on starboard.

Another good thing about propagation tank is to hide all the corals that are not doing well in the display tank.]
