New tank issues - Brown algae?

[My tank has been live for 1 1/2 weeks and I have the following measurements...

Ammonia = ~1.25 ppm
Nitrite = ~0.50 ppm
Nitrate = ~5.00 ppm

There is brown stuff on my white sand bed that covers probably 90% of the tank floor. I started to cut back on how long I have my lights on and got 5 crabies to help.

Any other thoughts?

Lemon Damsel is still alive :)]

[What you are seeing is very normal. The key to success in this hobby is patience. Just sit back and let mother nature do her thing.]

[What you are seeing is brown diatom alagae - this is a normal part of the first tank cycle. Give it 2 weeks for the paramaters to stabilize and they'll be gone. Very unsightly, but nothing to worry about. You can read more info on it here: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/brownalgcontfaqs.htm]

[I just went threw that phase in my tank. I added a Nassarius Snail and he went to town on that stuff. I didn't want it to get out of control. My water parameters are slowly stablilizing.]
