If its a big thread with a lot of replies etc.. You may want to send Jose a PM to see if he can move it. ?However, if it small you can just copy and paste the contents of that thread to a new one over here. ?Hope that helps.

Hey washingtond that is a good question. Our new website is integrated with social media and our forum system; when someone posts a topic and/or a reply to a topic it does a lot more than what the previous forum system did (phpbb). Our old website was standalone and the forum was standalone (phpbb);?due to the lack of integration between the old forum and the old website between them and social networks we decided to build a website that will cover those principles; integration with the forum and with many other tools and integration with social media.Due to the inability from Facebook to have a website working with a Facebook group we created a Facebook page which as you may have seen is now integrated on a one way communication with our website?(only integration Facebook allows). Our old website received very little traffic itself all traffic was via the forum; yet also very little traffic to the forum on reef related topics only a handful of people posted on reef related topics and the vast majority of visitors will use solely our for sale forums, we are not an association which goal is to profit nor support sales on our sites because this may have implications towards loosing our for non profit status and other implications as well. Our goal is?[?promoting public interest in the?][marine aquarium hobby][?and the advancement of knowledge in the husbandry of closed marine ecosystems.?]So our first goal?is to bring traffic back to our website to precisely become that help everyone needs; for that we need content relevant to reef enthusiast; after going trough thousands of posts we found that not much of our old forum is actually content that has that characteristic of value that may help a new person in the hobby or advanced aquarist. We then began a long term transition period of data; we scheduled 60 days for fellow members to help us decide what material would be worth to transition over to the new forum system; when we do that all those topics and replies will be exposed on social media and indexed in search engines with better tools to help us expose the content.A simple task is to dump all the content from the previous forum system on the new; that would make the forum whole yet it wouldn't make that data interact with the rest of the many applications we have in place and plan.If you would like to contribute to the effort we ask for our members to pin point within the next 60 days forums that you find are valuable to transition to the new forum structure and take advantage of the type of exposure that this represents, once we have a full list we will use an importer tool that we Are fine?tuning and?will not only dump the data in the new forum system, but will also feed the different new areas that we have in our new website. All that non hobby related and/or incomplete material will remain in an archive and will be indexed to our forum search engine so that all that information is available to all yet we don't need to bring thousands of unrelated material to our new site that does very little for our club and members. What do I ask then? if you have the time to assist us on pin pointing forums you would like us to transition for you; once we have a clean list together, then we will transition it.?I will begin a forum for members; where all can begin pointing for the next 60 days material that you find is valuable to transition, the challenge is to also make sure the material is complete as there are thousands of posts where someone asks for help to identify a critter, algae, sickness but all those images were embedded images which links no longer work, so it would not be helpful to have such material transition over if the very image required to help someone with id is not there. We would like for all data on the new forum system to be hobby related and relevant, and of course for all those thousands of unrelated and incomplete topics we will have the archive intact as historical reference.I make myself responsible for poorly communicating the full extend of our plan; my urgency was to release the new website which is working very good and integrated with our new Facebook page, we are having people engaged which we haven't had in our club for a long time, and also we are getting a good number of new followers on a daily bases, which is encouraging. My urgency was founded on the level of risk the old forum system had and website; the multiple security holes, the poor integration and the lack of traffic.I hope this post gives all a full panorama of what we plan to do web related; and I welcome any questions and even though I keep very busy with my companies, I am more than happy to sit down with any of you and go over your web goals.I will be conferencing next week with a few members that would like to assist on this process which I'm very exited about; I see you in almost every meeting and you know how important it is for us to engage fellow members and be that link for them and reef success.?

So, in the name, primarily, of security for the site, and it's members, we are tying our wagons to the company - facebook - that only 4 years ago was found to have had a known year long security breach that divulged the personal information of 6 million users before they finally got caught, and were forced to admit to it? Hmmm.? And secondarily, the extra information like coral selling/buying that does not encompass the lofty goals of the club was somehow interfering with the primary information being accessed? Hmmm. I am slow sometimes, but I do eventually get there. I can read between the lines! So, my friends, and I, here on the forum trading/selling/buying corals, helping each other find corals/fish to place in their tanks is not integral to promoting reef keeping? I have heard it all now! The sponsors here think it has a lot to do with it! You tell the sponsors here that it has everything to do with it. If the site has been used primarily by it's members to buy, and sell, then that is because that is primarily what the members here wanted to do. Imagine that! Why can't we be a group of people that promote the hobby the way that each of us wants to promote it? Why must we denigrate one aspect of the coral hobby? I try to promote it through propagation, and then inexpensive selling of corals. But that is unworthy of being acknowledged as a good thing, and detracts from our real goals? Really? Should we all just set up virtual reality aquariums and be done with it? It sounds like we would be more spiritually in tune with the board if we did, although our sponsorships would likely go out the window, unless they could re tool for selling us virtual aquarium products.I personally think that you have to actually have some coral to promote the coral hobby. And I know that you have to have a place to put it when you run out of room. Our club oversight seems to be attempting to attach a bad stigma to buy/sell/trade forums, and has been for a long time, when it is THE proof, and natural outflow of successfully keeping corals. It is the result of good husbandry, and the knowledge that you say that is primary to promote. How weird is that? It is bizarre! It's counter intuitive to lessen the value of the buy/sell/trade threads by deliberately leaving them out of our new site. They are the PROOF that we have had some success, and the documentation that this hobby can be successfully undertaken, and that we have others to turn to for equipment needs! How can you inspire someone to join in this hobby any better than that? And by the way, this is not a disruptive post. It's constructive honesty, and food for thought. If I have offended anyone, would you please forgive me? I will cut your cabbage for a hundred years.???

David, he's not saying we've hitched to a facebook security wagon. He's saying the new forum software has better security than the old forum software and the new forum software posts to facebook that a new topic has been posted on the forums. I do not believe there is any back and forth communication between this forum and facebook. I, personally, do not see the point of the forum software posting to facebook. Also, the buy and sell forums are still part of the site. They just are not bringing all of the old posts over to the new forum system automatically. I like that we're starting fresh. I would, however, like to see the old forums remain as a permanent, ready-only archive - I believe I saw they were only going to be kept for 60 days.

David, I like your post. Unfortunately the like button is disabled..?i have been been working on 501c3 stuff for quite a while and member buying and selling will not disqualify you as you are not profiting. ?

We don't have Facebook handling our security; our website communicates new posts to Facebook in hobby related forums, it has proven to attract members that weren't posting on our website for a long time and new people in the hobby looking for answers. Please let me know what you mean by reading between the lines; I'm not in the hiding information to people business; if you have a question I'm more than happy to answer it as I have answered every single question from any member and/or non member; I believe my post is specific on the goals and approach for web related maters, I'm not leaving any room for speculation but if something is not clear to you I'll be happy to expand on the matter. We also haven't taken away the ability for our members to trade frags and the eventual out of hobby sale nor we will; we will have a communication about how long we would keep the for sale forum data which should be around 60 days but that hasn't been determined yet.We were told that other similar non for profit organizations lost their qualifications for having for sale forums even though the association didn't profit via them; but that is a question to bring to the treasurer and/or the president that handle this matters.?

The archived forums will remain a read only archive as they are and will also be indexed to our new website and forum search box; I explained in my post that the 60 day period was for members to help us pick forums they would like for us to transition, there is no intention for us to delete our archive nor hide it from view. There are??[229 million monthly active users in Facebook just in america; we have already seen a considerable spike on views and activity coming directly from our?Facebook/twitter posts, there is proveen value on our?approach.?]After our post activity started we have gotten also visits from 7 other countries.Facebook does not allow back and forward communication; we can only post, there is no security risk on our side as you correctly explained.

Could you send me a screen shoot from your screen where the like button is disabled? I can see it with no issue from my tablet, cell and computer. (I just liked your post)Could you contact our treasurer (Tracy) and/or our president (Steve); we have been told other organizations have lost their qualification as non profit based on for sale forums, we may be able to use your resource as protection.??
