Monti question

I have a piece of purple monti that I got at the frag swap a few months ago. It is growing which keeps me happy. My question though it this. Is there different types of monti? Is there one that encrusts and just covers the rock it is on and one that creates the shelf like growth. If there are 2 kinds is it possible to know which one you have?

I think there is the encrusting montipora which just grows on the live rock and there are the cap which grows in tiers.

Encrusting montis and digitatas have a smoother apperance when they first start out. Plating montis generally have a more textured apperance. Of course there are other montiporas that have other growth forms. A picture may help.
