I added a coral banded shrimp a few days ago and he was out and about until this morning. I have not seen him all day, and then I saw a bunch of snails and crabs eating what looked to be the shrimp. I'm just wondering now, if it was the shrimp or was it it molted.
Dennis, it probably was a molt. CBS tend to hide a lot during the day time, and come out at night. Putting food in the tank will probably bring it out of hiding. Once the shrimp molts, it withdraws until its carapace hardens (a few hours, usually).
I leave the molts in. They are full of nutrition and generally the animal that molted will want to eat it to regain some of that...but they don't always get to it in time. As Dennis said, everybody else in the tank was all over it.
