Modifying Reactors

I have a next reef MR1 laying around that I have decided to modify to a recirculating reactor. I have a question about drilling the cylinder. Do you have to use a step bit, or can you use any bit to drill it? I'm looking for a clean drilled hole.
 
The last few i seen modded was using the cap and not drilling in the reactor body... Any bit will work in my experience with acrylic

Yes. Any bit will work but the step bits make things easier. Can get them from harbor freight pretty cheap. Harbor Freight also has a 3 piece PVC NPT tap set so you can tap it for 1/2 fittings.
