Mandarin long term?

I got a mandarin dragonet about 6 weeks ago, and he has really plumped up and seems tohave almost doubled in size over that time. The thing is I have no idea if the pod population in my tank is renewing fast enough to keep him going like this or if he's managed to wipe it out after gorging for the last several weeks. Is this sudden growth after introduction typical or do these guys just generally grow pretty fast if there's enough food running around?

What size is your tank?
What other fish do you have with it ?

If you have a small tank or another fish that will eat pods it will slowly die. I have a target mandarin and he is everywhere in the tank just eating. He was small at first and now he is plump like a turkey. The only frozen food he will eat is blood worms and not much of it so I only buy the small nano packs of it.
