LED STANDS

Ok so i finally got the Stands done painted and installed...

These are about as custom made as you can get...
I took pictures so I will do my best to walk you through what i have done..

First planning... This means measured the LED Modules and decided which direction i was going to mount them over the tank.
I decided i would build a BOX for them cause i liked the clean look.. Also i wanted to be able to adjust them forward and back slightly... I will point that out a little later..

My light fixture is 8 1/4 with vents on the sides by about 16 inches...
SO i had to take into account the vent sides and add extra spacing.... but here i go...

At this point i had measured and re measured and knew how high the lower Bracket would be as well as How High i wanted the upper Bracket to be able to go.
So Cut Iron

To mount the lower Bracket to the stand Securely i needed a spacer so the stand was away from the tank while giving me wiggling room..

FAST FORWARD

This is that Bottom Square 1.5 Inch tubing and i have built and welded on Brackets that will mount perfectly behind my Stand and screw into the Wood ...

Thought i was done didnt ya... lol

Close up of the Bracket...

Ok so the bottom piece is done for now...

On to the LED light BOX

I added 2 angle iron to it... This does a few things..
1.) Holds the light in... and the fixture i got has an angled bottom...
2.) Allow me to shift the light forward or back via just angling it a little ..
3.) I spaced them far enough apart that the Light unit is actually JUST below the Box Fixture.

Bought this tool.. used it to build the top 1 1/4 Square tubing that will hold the light box..

Raised our make shift welding platform...
Getting Everything to line up perfectly at this stage was probably the hardest part of the whole build..
Although careful throughout... nothing seemed square... lol

And you will note the Light box was welded below the tubing...
Later this will allow me to run the light wires through and down the Light Stands..

BUT ... I am making this thing out of Iron ...
How are we going to hold it up .. and make sure it is adjustable BUT will not fall and bust the tank...

BAM.. hard stop and well as a adjustment screw...

ok i am fast forwarding a lot .. just to make this short...

BUT i have 2 builds per stand.. both independent of each other..

One light will be housed by an upper adjustable Stand Mount that Slides down into another Square Tube that is 1/4 inch smaller with both a hard stop and an adjustable Screw..
These are the painted tops upside down...
Basically my box with the angles in them painted.. out drying..
They will slide down the lower Brackets... and be the movable part that .. it has a hard stop welded to insure that if the adjustment screw fails it will not fall onto the tank..
IF the adjustment screw fails it will have a 5 inch clearance..

You can see all the pieces here (kinda) after a few coats of paint drying ...

OOOOOooo

I ALMOST FORGOT... I HAVE ADVISE....

BEFORE YOU MOUNT YOUR LIGHTS...
You can do all the measurements on the front side and use some painters tape and map out the lights...
This will allow you to make adjustments according to your needs and/or wants...
A LOT easier then mounting them in several places until you figure it out..

ok/// Here they are...
This is blues ONLY at 30 % ... and 13 " above the Water...
I am sure i will need to adjust... and kinda why i built Adjustable Light Stands...

Here it is with 30% blue 20 % white...

I know it seems kinda low.. but it is midnight... i amd sure i will need to adjust the LED level when the sun fills my office with light..

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS... ask..
I have alot more pictures of the build and welding.. etc....
Or you can just come by and take a look at them...

so how heavy did they end up? said:
The tops are Heavy.... I had to weld some extra bracing...
1/4 " iron plate...

BUT i tested them by sitting on them...

I would guess 30 lbs each set.. maybe 40...

The Square tubing is light ... Had to be careful welding the 2 so the weld did not burn a hole through..

WOW.

Matt - great job on the holders. Practical yet very attractive - one of the best builds I have ever seen for our lights. And great posts - so that others can see how you did it. Rick
