Has anyone had an experience with this type of LED lighting for your tanks? I would usually go with MH but this looks like it might work.

For comparison I was considering something like this:

I want something that I can grow all types of corals with. Thoughts?

No experience with those but I just purchased the 165W LED's from Mars Aqua. Man are they bright!! I have 3 on a 175G 6' tank running about 1/3 power. Great $80ish ea investment. Had a small problem with a loose connector. Their support was outstanding. I also must say I was very impressed with the build quality inside. All connectorized, quality little PCB. Other cool thing is there's video's to mod them to work with the APEX.

Thanks mkaylor. I really am just looking for anyone with experience with LED's. Do you find they provide enough light for corals? Do you still get the "shimmer" on the bottom of the tank? I like the cost and my lfs is using them but I wanted to get some additional input.

I have to say I'm new to getting back into hobby, but the lights I purchased do put off way more than enough light and in the right spectrum. I do get shimmer. May years ago I had a reef setup with VHO's. This is unbelievably better. I'm sure there's a lot smarter people on here to speak about LED's than me. But I must say I do love mine and I love the fact that theirs little to no heat. It's one of the best purchases I feel I made.

Those are basically a knockoff of the Current Led. It will not be bright enough to be successful. Only good for fish only tanks and soft corals.

I have the current marine 48" unit. It can't grow corals and even easy palys/small polys etc arent happy, unless they are right near the top of my 75g bow front.

I should add that it basically is used to grow algae in my 50g 48" refugium. I do have two of them and when combined they might work for low to medium light stuff.
