Leaking Bulkhead

During the cold snap, my 50 gal tank developed a slow leak on the bottom. I had everything done to get my 75 gal tank up and running except drilling a hole in the side of the sump. Did that this morning and the glass chipped on the inside. Now my bulkhead won't get a good seal. Any suggestions on what I can do? Will plumbers putty work? Any help appreciated.

The glass has chippeds on the inside on just about every hole I have drilled in a tank. That is fairly common. I would try some silicone lubricant on the rubber gasket and remember not to over tighten the bulkhead.

Thanks for the replies, but it's not a slow leak. Do you think if I use aquarium sealant around the bulkhead would work?

You probably need to remove the bulkhead, pour clean water through the overflow to remove any particulates, then dry it well. Now, apply the aquarium sealant liberally, and screw the bulkhead down hand=tight using a towel to maintain a decent grip. Let it cure for 24 hours, then water test it.
