Galaxia and algae holes

I recently got a baseball sized galaxia from another member and it wasn't in very good shape. It had a lot of algae growing on it and one nickle sized hole on the top side where the algae had started eating into it. I dipped in some peroxide and tank water and used a toothbrush and was able to get rid of all the algae and it's been coming back very nicely in my tank. There has been new growth around the hole and it's closed up to about dime size now.

Question I have is that there is algae back growing in that hole now. Snails and such don't get to that spot because they wouldn't crawl over the face of the coral to get to it. The coral seems to be thriving so will it eventually beat back the algae and close up the hole completely by itself or do I need to dip again to kill off the algae so it can finish?
