Front Glass Changeout

I have a 300 gallon tank with too many scratches on the front glass. Rather than buying a new tank, I'm considering emptying the tank and replacing the front panel with starfire glass and re-sealing it. Has anyone tried this? If done properly, Shouldn't It be as strong as new? The tank alone weighs around 1200lb's so it would have to be done in place more or less. Dimensions of front glass are 84 x 36 x 3/4".

It can be done but very difficult to do yourself. There are places that will reseal your tank for you but I think they charge almost as much as a new tank would cost. I had planned to try to build mine myself but then came to the realization that I would rather have 100+ gallons of water being kept off my floor by a professional instead.
