DIY denitrifying coil

Been looking at this seems easy enough to build but is it really worth it? First hand I have seen how quickly can get out of hand and know that once they are out of control how hard it can be to get under control again. Just though I would put this DIY out there

i had one of these that i had built for my tank way back in the 90's when i was in the hobby the first time. it works, but it has all the drawbacks of a trickle filter and then some - aka, sediment build up and no good way to clean it without resetting it, takes a pretty long time to get rolling when set up or reset, and it does nothing to remove phosphates (and may add some).

Good to know but most of us already run media to remove phosphates

Maybe one could use a screw type cap instead of the referenced type
