Cross breeding?

I have 3 female H. Comes, and a male H Erectus. The male's pouch has been slowly getting bigger. I didn't want to jump to conclusions, thinking it might be to show off to the females.

It has been getting bigger for 2 weeks now. he is not having any problems swimming, and he still eats great.

Is there anything I can do to verify if it is a health issue, or pregnancy?

Can the 2 species cross breed?
